Review: With a Twist by Staci Hart

My rating:

*Beware, can contain spoilers*

With a Twist is an amazing book about friend to lovers. You get to be in the lives of the characters and experince what happens as suddenly they realize that friendship might not be the only thing between them.

Lily's passion is ballet so love hasn't been her priority, she's spent years climbing the ranks at the New York City Ballet, however when the boy, Blane, who she has had a crush on for years becomes available she goes straight for it. The fantasy was better than real life though, but that doesn't stop her from trying to make it work and hopefully live the fantasy. She'll realize that love has been close by all along.
Ever since Lily moved into the building her and West Williams have been friends, but when Lily starts her relationsip with Blane, West must realize that maybe there's more to the friendship than what they both thought. Timing has just never been on their side.

What I really loved with this book was how you really get to experience and see the kind of life Lily and West live. What they do, how they interact with eachother and their other friends. It evolves in such a way that when they finally see that there's more you feel as if you just realize it yourself for the first time and it's just so amazing and emotional. The characters were very well built up and realistic.
Normally I might be against waiting too long for something to happen between the two love interests, but it just completely worked here. Everything came together and made sense in the end and when something did happen it was more emotional somehow cause it felt like I had been waiting for this with the characters. I'm also glad that it wasn't the typical- they get together, break up for some reason and then back together. It's living their lives, seeing what they do and then finally seeing the beautiful moment when it all comes together.
Character wise I must say Lily was a big naive at times with Blane, but it makes sense, she has a fantasy of him that she desperately wants to come true, she's spent years having a crush on him, the older hot guy. So it's no wonder when he finally gives her attention, she goes for it. It's also as if, for both Lily and West that when this happens, when she starts this relationship they think about their friendship and come up with the reasons why they're friends and not more, as now all of the sudden they have to think about that when before they just were.
Then there's West.. Amazing man-bun, bearded, book reading West. Probably one of the best I've read about in a while. I can appreciate a nice alpha male, too, but sweet West can also do the trick that's for sure, besides he can take control when he needs to. I feel as if I can just tell people, hey this is a book with a guy who reads and.. enough said.

There you have it. I still feel like maybe I could go on and on about more points to speak in favor of this book, but I'll just end with saying that it's a really sweet beautiful book and the writing and characters are all amazing. And the boy who reads, don't forget that.

Author:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.
