Anthony Carter has not had it easy in life. In a matter of months, he lost his mother to cancer along with his much coveted spot in a prestigious doctoral program. Swimming in debt, he’s been forced to move back to his hometown in rural Montana and take whatever job he can find. A drunken weekend in Vegas is exactly what he needs to help him forget his problems.

A recent break-up with her boyfriend of nearly a decade has left straight-laced Liz Rockwell disillusioned with love and in desperate need of a vacation. She gets more than she bargained for when one drunken night at a Vegas bar results in her being married to Anthony. Embarrassed by her lapse in judgment, Liz is ready to make this whole night just go away. A quickie divorce seems like the best solution to their problem, until Anthony realizes who Liz really is.

Known in the media as the Candy Heiress, billionaire Liz is the answer to Anthony’s prayers. All he has to do is convince her to write him a check. Unfortunately, Liz is not one to be easily intimated or coerced. Discovering the Rockwell family secret may be Anthony’s only hope. But the more time he spends with the intelligent and tenacious Liz, the more he realizes their chapel wedding may not have been such a drunken mistake after all…

My rating:

A waking up in Vegas married always makes for a fun read. This had a new and refreshing twist to the whole aftermath of that.

Anthony has had a whole lot of bad luck which now has put him in a lot of debt. Liz has just broken up with her boyfriend who she had been with for almost a decade. A trip to Vegas to forget their problems ends up with them married.
Naturally they aim for a quick divorce to put it behind them, but when Anthony finds out who Liz is, the Candy Heiress, he sees her as his way out of all his debt. She pay his debt, he divorces her. However Anthony doesn't expect that Liz won't just give in to his demands. Anthony then goes for his back up plan, they stay married for a while and get to know eachother in the hopes that when the time is up she'd want to play his debt.
However the more time they spend together, the harder it is to ignore the attraction between them.

This is one of those books where most of the characters actions won't make sense until later, it isn't offered on a silver platter right at the beginning you actually have to read and get to know them before you discover their reasons to do certain things. Like the fact that Anthony blackmails her and wants to use her for her money, I admit first I wasn't exactly thrilled that he would do that, especially since you in the beginning, in Vegas, see him as a really nice guy and there he goes trying to use her family secrets against her to get money- however the further in the book I got, the more it made sense as I got to know Anthony better.
Now Liz I liked from the beginning, she is smart and strong and such a great character.

All in all, a really great book with deep characters and a really different married in Vegas love story. I loved the unique story.
This is a debut novel, but from the writing I really wouldn't have thought so, it was done really well.

About Natalie Rios

Natalie Rios bio pic (1)
Natalie can’t sing. Or dance. Or play an instrument. She can’t ride a bike and doesn’t know how to swim or drive. As a result, her husband often asks “Are you sure you’re not really from Mars?” (the answer, in case you were wondering, is no. Unless New York counts as another planet). When she’s not geeking out at her day job, Natalie can be found attempting to wrangle her overly energetic Westie, baking ridiculously chewy chocolate chip cookies, and watching so-bad-it’s-good reality television shows.
